How can you safe guard your Google Adsense.

No comments:
18 Common Mistakes that Violate Google Adsense TOS

Google Adsense publishers often commit common mistakes that could ban their Adsense account. Google Adsense is a popular web advertising program which provides a good income source for many websites. There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.

On my visit through sites and forums, I daily notice several instances of misuse of Adsense ads. So here a few helpful Google Adsense tips, probably many you already know, and few you might gain by knowing now. These adsense faq are all picked from the Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.

1. Never click your own adsense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason. You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Dont even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.

2. Never change the Adsense code. There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.

3. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 ad links or 2 adsense search boxes on any web page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it.

4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the adsense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links. Update: Google has allowed you to run contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc provided the ads do not resemble Adsense ads.

5. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.

6. Label headings as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” only. Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Dont make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.

7. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.

8. One Account suffices for Multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.

9. Place ads only on Content Pages. Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, “thank you” or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.

10. Do not mask ad elements. Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping images, pop ups, tables etc.

11. Do not send your ads by email. HTML formatted emails look good and allow placement of these JavaScript ads. But it is not allowed as per TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. They are watching!

12. Keep track of your content. So Adsense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.

13. Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches - Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.

14. Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing - Although the definition of ‘excessive’ is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google adsense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.

15. Ensure you Language is Supported - Adsense supports “Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Danish, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, English, Polish, Finnish, Portuguese, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, Italian and Turkish”. In addition, AdSense for search is available in Czech, Slovak, and Traditional Chinese. If your web pages language is not supported, do not use the code on such pages.

16. Maximum 2 referral button per product per page - With the launch of the Google adsense referral program, you are allowed to put only 2 referral buttons for adsense referral, adwords referral, Google pack and Firefox with Google toolbar referral. Update: This feature is closing Aug 2008. [ended today]

17. Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads. - Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even Adsense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use Adsense ads as alternate urls.

18. Do not confuse with adjacent images - It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. Inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads is not allowed. Make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors

How to convert RM to MP3

No comments:

This tutorial teaches you how to convert .rm files into mp3s. Read on to find out about the software required for this task, where to get it and how to use it.

Software/Tool Required:

Switch Sound File Conversion Software
Switch is a free audio coversion tool. It supports conversion of many format into one another, but what we need to know is that it CAN convert .rm to mp3. There is a Plus version that you can upgrade to for $US19.40 which will unlock some advanced features. You can read more about it at their website. For the purpose of this tutorial the free version is perfect and there is no need for an upgrade.

NOTE: The free version will have all the advanced features for 14 days from the day you install the software. After that trial period, the advanced features will be deactivated and every once in a while you will be asked to upgrade. Don't worry about that, just click 'NO' or 'Cancel' everytime you are asked to upgrade and you will be fine.

Download Switch v1.05 (link 1)
Download Switch v1.05 (link 2)

Use the link above to download Switch. Run the downloaded file by double-clicking and simply follow the on-screen instructions to install it on your hard drive.

How to use Switch:

You can use Switch to convert files one at a time, or convert multiple files at once. Here are the steps to convert one/multiple files:

  1. First add files to the queue by clicking either the 'Add File(s)' or 'Add Folder' button (see image below). They both serve the same purpose, with the difference that the first allows you to choose the files you want and the second enables you to add all the contents of a folder to the queue.
  2. Now that you have added your files, you need to choose the Output Folder, the folder where Switch will save the converted files. Click the button labelled as ' ... ' (see image below) and choose your desired folder.

  3. Choose .mp3 (or any format you prefer) as the Output Format from the dropdown menu as shown in the image below.

  4. Finally, click the 'Convert' button at the top right corner to get the job done.
When you click Convert, a little window (like the one below) will pop up, which shows you what is being done. You can cancel the process by clicking the 'Cancel' button (Dah!). The window will disappear once files are converted.

There are many other commercial softwares that can do this task, but some may not be comfortable with the price tag they come with.

I hope you find this tutorial (my first one ever) useful. If I am being ambiguous with my explanation here, feel free to comment or ask questions below. Now that the issue of file format is hopefully resolved, let's get back to downloading some cool music.

Windows Service Pack installation - Access Denied

No comments:

You may get this "Access denied" error message when installing Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1. This may happen when the permission for one or more registry keys is not present. This prevents the update of those registry keys. To install the Service Pack, please find the registry key, change the permission and run the Service Pack setup again.

The setupapi.log file in C:\windows by default or in %windir% directory contains logs to troubleshoot installation or setup issues. By default, the registry entries are not written in this log. To include registry information in this file, verbose logging has to be enabled in Windows XP. The procedure to enable verbose logging in Windows XP requires some registry changes. It is always advisable to back up the registry before doing any changes. Please click Start, click run. Type regedit in the open field and click OK. The registry editor will open.

Go to the following location in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\

Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \Setup

Locate the LogLevel subkey. Double-click it to edit the subkey. In the "EDIT DWORD value" window, please click Hexadecimal in the Base pane. Type 0000FFFF in the Value data box. Click OK. Close the registry editor and run the setup again. The setupapi.log file will include the registry key. When verbose logging is enabled, the size of setupapi.log grows to approximately 4MB. So after finding the registry keys, reset the DWORD value of LogLevel subkey back to 0.

Run the setup to get the error message. Open the setupapi.log file. Press CTRL+END to go to the end of the file. At the end of the file you can find lines

#-007 Deleting registry key

HKCR\amm.lr.aud

#E033 Error 5: Access is denied.

The line above "access is denied" says which registry key's permission has to be changed. HKCR represents "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" and amm.lr.aud in subkey that is located under the registry hive. Update the permissions for that subkey and run the Service Pack SP setup again.

To update the permission, please open the registry editor, locate the registry subkey that you find from the setupapi.log file. Select the key; on the Edit menu click Permissions to open the permissions window for the selected registry subkey. Add full control permissions to Administrators in the permissions window. Click Apply and click Ok. On the file menu, click Exit to exit the registry editor.

Now it should be possible to install the Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1.

The other option to install the Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1 is to reset the registry security settings to default. To do this, please click Start, click Run, type cmd and then press Enter.

The command prompt will be opened. Type the following command secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\repair\secsetup.inf /db secsetup.sdb /areas REGKEYS /verbose and press ENTER

You will get a message "Task Completed" and warning message that can be ignored. The log about this command is available in %windir%\Security\Logs\Scesrv.log file

Retrieving important files

No comments:
The user folder in "Documents and Settings" is set with full permission for the corresponding user. One user will not be able to access another's folder in "Documents and Settings". If the operating system crashes and is reinstalled in a different drive, then the user logged in from the new installed OS will not be able to access the previous Documents and Settings user folder. The old Documents and Setting user folder has to be given permission for the required user.

The administrator has to take ownership of the user folder and its contents. After this, the necessary permission for the folder has to be set. After logging in as an administrative user, to take ownership of the user folder, please right-click the user folder in C:\Documents and Settings and click Properties; Click the Security tab; Click Advanced and click Owner tab. In the name list, the logged in username and the Administrator group will be displayed. Select any one and select Replace owner on sub containers and objects. Click Ok and then click Yes for the message. Click Ok to close the Properties window.

This will take ownership of the folder and its contents and set the full control permission for the folder. After this, you can copy the files and folders in the Documents and Settings\User folder. For more details, please look up: http:// support.microsoft.com/kb/308421 There can be some folders where even if you change the permissions to the folder, it is not possible to access the contents or not possible to change the permissions. The folder might be inheriting permission from its parent folders.

To remove the inheritance from the parent folder, please right-click the folder and click properties. Click the security tab. Click advanced. In the permissions tab, the check box "inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here" will be selected by default. Remove the check box. During removal, the check box will prompt you to select one of the options: To copy the permission entries those were previously applied from the parent. To remove the permission entries those were previously applied from the parent and keep only those permissions explicitly defined here.

How to Use Excel as a Database Engine.

1 comment:

It is possible to update changes to the excel database
By using Excel macros or with the help of any front-end applications.

Before we go further, let us first take a look at excel as database. The basic format for storing data in an Excel database is a table. In a table, data is entered in rows. Each row is known as a record. After the creation of table, Excel's data tools can be used to search, sort and filter records in the database to get the required information. Creating a list from the data in a table is the easiest method of using the data tools.

For creating an Excel DB, the first step you need to follow is to enter the data with no blank rows. A record can contain data about only one specific item. A record must also contain all the data in the database about that item, not more than one row. Column headings are called field names and are used to ensure that the data for each record is entered in the same sequence and is consistent. After the data has been entered into the table, it can be converted to a list. To do that, please select any one cell in the table. Then Choose Data> List > Create List from the menu to open the Create List dialog box. The dialog box displays the range of cells needed to be included in the list.

If we create the table correctly, Excel selects the correct range of fields. Click ok if the range is correct. If the list is incorrect, please click the return button of list box for getting back to worksheet; it will appear as a small box and the current range of cells will be surrounded by marching ants. You will need to select the correct range of cells by dragging the mouse and clicking the button on list box for return back to the normal size and click oK for finishing.

After completion, the list will have a dark border around it and each field name will have down arrows, which will open drop-down menus when clicked. Options such as sorting the DB with field names and searching for records from DB are possible with dropdown menus. Additional data can also be added using blank row containing an asterisk at the bottom of the list.

Merging or combining two excel tables into one database excel file can be based on a common column of data from each file. The two tables can be located in the same Excel file or two different Excel files.

The concept behind the issue is loop into the worksheets, based on a common field for insert and update the data.

For example, name a variable `sh' and loop the worksheets. For each `sh' in this Worksheet. If sh(name) is not equal to destination.name, then insert into last row (destination name). Likewise, for updating any changes in the worksheets to reflect it on destination (Database), you will need to loop through the worksheets with variable, find out any changes, and update it. This can be done with the help of an excel macro based on this concept.

By Using Visual Basic.Net 2005 - VSTO (Visual Studio Tools for Office), this can be achieved with WorkBook.MergeFile method.

You will need to import Microsoft.Office.Tools.Excel for this.

Here is a sample coding: Dim objFirst As Worksheet = New

Worksheet

Dim obj,objFirst,objSecond,ObjThird As

New Workbook

objFirst = New WorkBook.Open(firtFile)

objSecond = New WorkBook.Open (secondFile) objThird = New WorkBook.Open(thirdFile)

objThird.Merge(objFirst, objSecond)

Close and dispose all the variables.

There are various tools and add-ins for merging data sheets into a single Excel workbook.
