Protect Your Smart Phone

No comments:

Some smartphone operating systems are more secure than others. “BlackBerry is heralded by CIOs as the go-to for corporate communications because of its secure design from the ground up,” Siciliano says. “iOS is secure due to its closed nature, but Android’s source code is open.”

If you’re looking for a secure smartphone ecosystem, you may want to go with BlackBerry first, then iOS, and then Android. But if you’ve already got a phone—and it’s an Android phone— try a mobile security suite such as Lookout Security & Antivirus (free; play.google.com) and Avast! Mobile Security (free; play.google.com). Lookout scans apps that you download from the Google Play store to ensure you don’t accidentally download malware, viruses, or spyware.

If you’re willing to pay a little extra, however, you can get more features. McAfee Mobile Security ($30; McAfee.com) is pricey, but along with an antivirus scanner you also get call and SMS filtering, mobile device location services (if your phone gets lost or stolen), remote wipe and lock services, and real-time web protection.

Type As you Like - New Trend to Search on Google

No comments:

Usually we search internet by typing words on keyboard in any desktop or laptop computer, when you're searching on a touch-screen mobile device it’s often inconvenient to type. So we strive to give you a variety of ways to interact with Google, be it by speaking your queries, getting results before you finish typing, or searching by image. Now there’s a new way for you to interact with Google: Handwrite for web search on mobile phones and tablets.

Say you’re standing on a busy street corner, in a bumpy taxi ride, talking with a friend, or sitting on the couch with your tablet. Handwrite enables you to search by just writing letters with your finger most anywhere on your device’s screen—there’s no keyboard that covers half of the screen and no need for hunt-and-peck typing.

Top 12 Google Search Tips

1 comment:

Tip 1: Easy Google™ dictionary definitions
e.g. define: word
Next time you don't quite understand a word, simply Google™ the word using the above format
Google™ will then display a whole list of definitions from all kinds of different sources

Tip 2: Google™ calculator

e.g. 1+1
Type in a calculation into the search box and let Google™ do the rest. Too easy.

Tip 3: Search for a specific phrase rather than groups of ideas

e.g. "this is amazing"
This feature is great if you know exactly what you're looking for. e.g. if you are looking for information about a specific film or book

Tip 4: Quick Currency Conversion using Google™

e.g. 100 USD in AUD
Using Google™ to convert currency using current exchange rates straight straight from your search box is very convenient!

Tip 5: Searching for specific file types using Google™

e.g. apples filetype:pdf
Searching for specific kinds of files using Google™ can often be very handy. e.g. PDF, Word docs, Excel spreadsheets etc
Tip 6: Searching only a specific website using Google™ site search

e.g. iphone site:apple.com
It is sometimes very frustrating when you remember finding something very interesting on a particular site, then when you go searching for it later on, you can only find results on other sites. Use site search to only search the relevant site with Google™ for the right page

Tip 7: Using negative match keywords with Google™ Search

e.g. mp3 player -ipod
Let's say for some reason you want to search for mp3 players, but don't want to see any results talking about iPods because you're bored of them. This is very hard without using negative keywords; however, by adding a very simple negative keyword, finding what you're looking for is easy.

Tip 8: Using Google™ to tell the time

e.g. time in London
Ask Google the time anywhere in the world and the answer will be yours in a flash. Just type in 'time in' and the name of a city.

Tip 9: Using the tilde ~ symbol with Google™ Search

e.g. Italian Language ~help
Sometimes it's handy to find results all related to one keyword. Using the ~ symbol before a keyword returns results from that particular keyword, as well as other related words. So if you are looking for help, support or advice with Italian Language, you may type in 'Italian Language ~help'.

Tip 10: Email with Google™

www.gmail.com
Have you tried email the Google™ way? Try Gmail, Google's free mail service. Over 7GB of storage means you will never have to delete emails, and you can use Google's search technology to search through all your emails like never before. Gmail has the best spam detection of any provider plus countless other cool features like pop3, imap and can even remind you when you forget an attachment. Give it a go! You can also get GMail at your domain. e.g. you@yourdomain.com.

Tip 11: Converting measurements with Google™ Search

e.g. 89 miles in km
Need to convert something from imperial to metric units of measurement? Need to change temperature from degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius? Inches to CM? KM to Miles? It's easy with Google™ - just type it in!

Tip 12: Browsing the web with Google™

www.google.com/chrome
Looking for a super fast browser? Google™ Chrome is multi-threaded meaning it is great for people who like to multi-task and utilise a bunch of tabs at the same time. Try Google Chrome - super fast, simple, and sophisticated.

Google Chrome - A Shining browser

No comments:
What is Google chrome?

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the Web faster, safer, and easier. Use one box for everything--type in the address bar and get suggestions for both search and Web pages. Thumbnails of your top sites let you access your favorite pages instantly with lightning speed from any new tab. Desktop shortcuts allow you to launch your favorite Web apps straight from your desktop.

Version 0.2.149.30 is a security and bug-fixing update.

Note: The Download Now link will take you to the Google Chrome Web site, where you must accept the end-user license agreement before downloading. Also, the 474K downloadable file is only a stub installer. You must remain connected to the Internet during installation to complete the full download of Google Chrome.

Geeks view :

Chrome is Google's attempt to make the browser disappear and to focus on the applications and pages users are viewing, rather than on the border with its tools. Some of Chrome's basic underpinnings are quite novel, but people will recognize other features as they exist in other, open-source browsers on the market today.

Currently only for Windows, Chrome is blazingly fast and is easily the quickest browser available. Based on Webkit, the same open-source engine that powers Apple Safari and Google's Android mobile platform, Chrome's interface is a drastic departure from other browsers. Instead of the traditional toolbar, Chrome puts its tabs on top. Moreover, the tabs are detachable: "tabs" and "windows" are interchangeable here. Detached tabs can be dragged and dropped into the browser, and tabs can be rearranged at any time. By isolating each tab's processes, when one site crashes, the browser does not.

Within each tab are individual controls, such as forward and back buttons. The search box and the address bar have been fused into a hybrid "Omnibox." The Omnibox includes not only suggestions for URLs culled from your browser's history, it also includes search suggestions from your search engine, and remembers site-specific search engine results. There's also Application Shortcuts, a feature that allows you to create desktop icons for Web-only applications, such as Gmail or Calendar. The stealth mode, Incognito, lets you surf without the history recording cookies.

Chrome lacks plug-ins, and there's the potential for high memory usage given that each tab is its own process. If you're addicted to Web apps and a need for speed, though, Chrome just might be the shine your browsing experience has been looking for.

How to Submit Blog Feed to Feed Directories

No comments:

RSS Feed Directories

In this article, we list all the Feed Directories to which you can submit your feeds for Free. We shall also list the Ping services that you can use to ping whenever you update your Blog. This should help increase awareness of your new articles and attract more readers to your Blog. As the list is ever-growing, you might want to consider bookmarking this page as we shall update the list whenever we come across other useful services.

Even if you are not familiar with feeds, you would have probably seen this icon in your web browsers. When you come across a page with contents that are viewable in web feed formats, you will be able to click the icon in your browsers to subscribe to the feed of that page. These feeds may either be a full text or summary of the content. The content can be read on a feed reader or aggregator which checks the sites regularly for new content. The terms RSS and Atom are feed formats.

To ensure that your Blog is able to syndicate the feed content of your Posts, login to your Dashboard and go to Settings -> Site Feed. Make sure that you have set “Allow Blog Feed” to Short or Full. Save the settings.

Next, key this URL into your browser, substituting YOUR-BLOG-URL with the URL of your blog beginning with http://

YOUR-BLOG-URL/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

Do you see your Blog feed? Next, test with this URL

YOUR-BLOG-URL/feeds/posts/default

You should be able to see the contents of your Posts, either in summary form or full, depending on your Settings. These are your Blog Feed URLs. You can submit any of them to the Feed Directories that we list below. If you have syndicated your feed to other services like Feedburner, you can submit that Feed URL too.

To confirm whether your URL is correct, you may also enter it into this RSS Feed Validator.

Submit Blog Pings

Now that your Blog appears in several Blog and Feed directories, you would want to keep these directories and search engines notified of your latest blog updates. By pinging some of the services, they will be able to crawl or visit your site to index the latest blog contents. You can ping them when you have created a new post or updated an old post. Fortunately for us, there are a number of useful services that make it easy for us to submit the pings to the tracking sites.

First essential step. Go to Settings -> Publishing and under “Send Pings”, select “Yes”. Whenever your blog is updated, Blogger will ping certain services that track blog changes.

Rather than pinging individual tracking sites, we have been using services which help us update different sites and search engines that include Verisign's Weblogs.com, Yahoo!'s blo.gs, Technorati, Newsgator, Feedburner, Moreover, Bulkfeeds and Syndic8. All we need to do is to enter the Blog URL and Blog Title and they will send the pings to all the sites we select.

Ping Services

Google Blog Search Ping Service - We thought we should mention this. For new bloggers who do not find their sites when they key them into the NavBar search box, ping this site.

Pingoat - A very comprehensive list of sites that you can choose to ping. The service is also very fast and it is done within seconds.

Ping-O-Matic - Less comprehensive list.

Blog Flux Ping Service - A list of sites as comprehensive as Pingoat's but the ping takes a much longer time and is not often successful.

Feeds Pings - A short list but has pretty relevant sites.

There are other services which volunteer to send the pings on your behalf. Some of them are services provided to members only. You may also ping individual sites like Technorati. However, we think that the above services would have sufficiently covered many of the popular tracking sites.

Of course, we shall update this list every now and then and you may want to click the Bookmark button below to visit this page whenever you have updated your articles.

How can you safe guard your Google Adsense.

No comments:
18 Common Mistakes that Violate Google Adsense TOS

Google Adsense publishers often commit common mistakes that could ban their Adsense account. Google Adsense is a popular web advertising program which provides a good income source for many websites. There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.

On my visit through sites and forums, I daily notice several instances of misuse of Adsense ads. So here a few helpful Google Adsense tips, probably many you already know, and few you might gain by knowing now. These adsense faq are all picked from the Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.

1. Never click your own adsense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason. You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Dont even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.

2. Never change the Adsense code. There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.

3. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 ad links or 2 adsense search boxes on any web page. Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it.

4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google Adsense competition in their field. Never try to create link structures resembling the adsense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links. Update: Google has allowed you to run contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc provided the ads do not resemble Adsense ads.

5. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you. However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.

6. Label headings as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” only. Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Dont make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.

7. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default. Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.

8. One Account suffices for Multiple websites. You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.

9. Place ads only on Content Pages. Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, “thank you” or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.

10. Do not mask ad elements. Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping images, pop ups, tables etc.

11. Do not send your ads by email. HTML formatted emails look good and allow placement of these JavaScript ads. But it is not allowed as per TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. They are watching!

12. Keep track of your content. So Adsense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.

13. Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches - Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.

14. Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing - Although the definition of ‘excessive’ is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google adsense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.

15. Ensure you Language is Supported - Adsense supports “Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Danish, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, English, Polish, Finnish, Portuguese, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, Italian and Turkish”. In addition, AdSense for search is available in Czech, Slovak, and Traditional Chinese. If your web pages language is not supported, do not use the code on such pages.

16. Maximum 2 referral button per product per page - With the launch of the Google adsense referral program, you are allowed to put only 2 referral buttons for adsense referral, adwords referral, Google pack and Firefox with Google toolbar referral. Update: This feature is closing Aug 2008. [ended today]

17. Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads. - Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even Adsense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use Adsense ads as alternate urls.

18. Do not confuse with adjacent images - It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. Inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads is not allowed. Make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors

Faster Google Search on Your Mobile Phone

No comments:
{ Google operating system blog}

Searching the web using a mobile phone is not always a pleasant experience. You have to open a browser, go to a search engine, wait for the page to load and type your query. Google tried to eliminate two of these steps by providing small applications that add Google's search box on the phone's home screen. This way, the search box is always at your fingertips and you won't have visit Google's homepage to type your query.

For Blackberry, the search application is included in the Google Mobile Updater, which is available at mobile.google.com. Google offers a similar search shortcut for N-series and E-series Nokia phones and for Windows Mobile phones at the same address. Google will probably expand the availability of this app to other mobile phones, although not all of them allow search boxes on the home screen. For feature phones, Opera Mini is probably the best fastest way to access Google search.

Because the search box is more accessible and it's so easy to enter your query, people search more. "When we look at the combined usage numbers for BlackBerry and Symbian versions of this plug-in, we see that users are able to get Google search results up to 40 percent faster. And, BlackBerry and Symbian users with the plug-in installed search 20 percent more than those without it," concludes Google.

"We have very much hit a watershed moment in terms of mobile Internet usage. We are seeing that mobile Internet use is in fact accelerating. The growing availability of flat-rate data plans from phone carriers instead of per-minute charges that previously discouraged Internet use, along with improved Web browsers on mobile phones as well as better-designed services from companies like Google are fueling the growth", said Google's Matt Waddell. iPhone was a great testbed for trying new interfaces and testing their impact as the Internet will slowly move to mobile phones.
